To All GDCC Officials, Members, Players and Supporters

It is my very sad duty to advise that our Life Member, long serving Treasurer and Board Member Cheryl Cook passed away suddenly last Wednesday (June 3). This has been a massive shock to the GDCC Family and many others who knew Cheryl through the Club or business.

Cheryl first joined GDCC in the early 1990s when her son Mark moved through from the Juniors to the Seniors. Cheryl’s initial commitment was joining the Glenelg District Cricketers Club committee. Her accounting ability and common sense soon shone through and eventually Cheryl took over as Club Treasurer. Her attention to detail and employing a new accounting package certainly improved the systems for the Club finances.

Cheryl’s other great passion was for Womens cricket and she was pivotal in initiating a GDCC Womens cricket program. She was delighted when the Womens second team won back to back flags topped off by last season’s Women’s first grade winning the premiership plus the Club winning the SACA Women’s Club Championship. Over the last 5 years Cheryl had also became the GDCC Delegate to the SACA Premier Grade committee.

Cheryl also had a great deal of respect for the many volunteers that make GDCC tick, indeed she created the Volunteer Appreciation Day. Cheryl was always volunteering to assist with functions, afternoon teas, fund raisers, working bees or anything to help the Club. Whenever the Club ran a fundraiser or function Cheryl always enjoyed participating on a personal level.

Cheryl Cook will leave a huge hole at our Club which will be difficult to fill she was such a valued member. Her passion for GDCC will be sorely missed.

As part of the partnership, Adam will become the club’s corporate sponsor and has committed to giving back to the Seahorses community. This initiative will provide valuable funding to support players, programs and the ongoing development of the club.
